"Take Control Of Your Camera"
A workshop for new photographers who want to get off auto
and start taking control of the images they take.
This face-to-face workshop is for you if you have a camera sitting in its box
waiting for you to learn how to use its many controls.
I will explain all the essential elements of photography
and show you how to implement these using the manual settings on your camera
to enable you to start taking beautiful images.
The workshop is a mix of theory and practical teaching using your own camera. It runs for 3.5 hrs and takes place in my studio in Erina on the Central Coast, NSW.
Topics Covered
1 Camera Modes
2 Exposure Triangle
3 Aperture
4 Shutter Speed
5 ISO
6 White Balance
7 Focus Modes
8 Focus Areas
9 Metering Modes
10 Exposure Compensation
11 Image stabilisation
12 Camera Drive Modes
13 Image Quality
14 Editing Software Options
All participants received a printed workbook to take home with them covering all the topics covered.
Please note this workshop is designed for one-to-one participation to ensure we cover as much as possible and allow enough time for practical experience. A maximum of two participants is possible only if the same camera type is used (either sharing a camera or the same camera each).
Testimonials
"Huge shoutout to Jill for running the incredible "Take Control Of Your Camera" workshop in Erina! I came into this session totally stuck in 'Auto' mode, and a few hours later, I feel like I've actually unlocked the power of my camera!
I loved that we didn't just sit and talk theory. Jill made sure I was constantly using my own camera, which was essential for figuring out all those confusing buttons for Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO (the Exposure Triangle finally makes sense!).
Getting to practice in Jill’s beautiful garden was amazing. It was so much better than being stuck indoors. I got to play with things like depth of field and motion to the difference between JPEG and RAW quality. It was a one-on-one setup, which meant I could ask all the "silly" questions I needed.
Leaving with a printed workbook is a lifesaver so I don't forget everything next week!
If your camera is collecting dust or you're ready to ditch auto mode, you seriously need to see Jill. This workshop gave me the confidence to finally take creative control of my photography. Highly recommend! Dee
"I was fortunate to contact with Jill Ashby Photography at a time when I was ready to progress my photography skills. I completed the ”Take Control Of Your Camera” workshop, in a one-to-one session with Jill. She had taken time to research my camera, Fujifilm X-T2, and tailored the workshop to this camera and its capabilities. I am heading to Tasmania in a few weeks and now I know I have learnt enough to move from Auto to a much more selective type of photography, that will give me a totally new perspective to my trip. Thank you Jill, can’t wait to share some photos with you. You were a relaxed, informative and easy to understand trainer. Cheers Mike”.
“Jill has been so knowledgeable and generous with sharing key tips for using my camera and getting the best effects from it. She shares camera facts and creative ideas in such a fun and easy-to-understand way. It was a real pleasure spending time together whilst learning about my camera. Thanks Jill!”, Jacqui
“I thoroughly enjoyed my workshop with Jill. She was able to explain to me how to get the best from my camera in terms I could understand. We spent some time putting into practice everything that I had learnt and I produced shots that I would never of thought I could! Thank you so much Jill”, Elaine.
